What to do now that I finished NaNo '07

I'm thinking of writing the story I was considering for this year - a Werewolf: The Apocalypse fanfic involving the college days of my Fianna Half-Moon NPC. That story wouldn't have made 50K, though, so it's probably just as well I ended up doing By Sword & Spell.

Now that I don't have to worry about word count, though, I think I might write it. There's a lot in that particular character's background I want to flesh out, and it'll give me a chance to write something for my own personal pleasure.

I've got the beginning and a couple of scenes planned out in my head already; I think I'll outline the story and see where it goes from there.

Since the strictly historical approach wasn't "gelling" for me, I'm keeping most of the storyline, but trading the historical mileau for a fantasy one based on it. That'll also give me some more flexibility in regards to plot, I think.

There's also been a title change.

The new blurb:

The island nation of Logres is in peril. The empires of Gaule and Alhambra have long desired control of its strategic location. Unable to match the sheer military might of Alhambra or Gaule, Queen Elspeth of Logres has assembled a select group of champions to guard the realm from threats both within and without, and both magical and mundane.

But now a shadow looms on the horizon. Dark magicians move against Logres, and even the Queen's Finest are hard-pressed to stop their depradations. Will their abilities be enough? Or will the light of Logres be forever extinguished?

So, after watching My Hime and kicking around ideas to run an RPG campaign based on it, I got some ideas for NaNo 2007.

I'm planning to write a story set in the world I'm creating for my game. If nothing else, it'll help me get a better handle on what the world is like.

At least now I have a firm idea of what I'm going to write. =)

Do I dare to sign up for Nanowrimo this November? After all, I will actually be working (unlike last year). Of course, if I go for the evening shifts a few more days a week, I might have more days off.

If I’m still able to write in the mornings, all will be well. Of course, it means that some things may have to go by the wayside. Hm, maybe I should think about making stuff in advance and freezing it. Or maybe have the hubby make dinner on the late nights I work.

If I am going to do Nano again, I’m going to need a solid idea to keep me going for 50 thousand words or more. Last year’s quest and love triangles story worked, but so far I haven’t gotten anything for 2007.

Maybe I *will* go with the reworking of the fantasy story I tried to write back in my undergrad days. Does having tried to write the story once before and failed count as working on it before November, I wonder? Maybe not if I start fresh.

I *could* try going the fanfic route, but I don’t know how long I could keep going with that. I’d need something beyond just the standard plotlines I’ve used, which are fine for short shorts, but probably couldn’t carry me through 50K.

I could also try doing something with the ideas for CtL characters I’ve gotten. And Ken and Ciara are like old friends, so I’ll be able to get inside their heads easily enough. Just have to see what sorts of types of characters and gatherings the Lost have, I suppose.

The hubby suggested trying to do a sequel to 2006's Nano story. It’s a possibility, but all I really have for that is the idea to do a Tenkai Nankobo thing with my previous protagonist. Not really a terribly engaging plot. =)
